Jamie “JJ” Hamblett was born in Newmarket, Suffolk, and began his career as an apprentice jockey for legendary trainer Sir Michael Stoute, riding in over 400 races, including for HM The Queen.
JJ rose to fame in 2012 on ITV’s The X Factor as a member of Union J. The group became one of the show’s biggest success stories, achieving five UK Top 10 singles, including a Number 1 hit, a Top 10 album, sold-out UK arena tours, and a BBC Radio 1 Teen Award. In 2022, Union J reunited for a sold-out 10-year anniversary show at the London Palladium, with the group set to return again next year to celebrate 15 years.
Since music, JJ has moved into acting and presenting, appearing in feature films including Tango One and Once Upon a Time in London, while also presenting for ITV Racing and Sky Sports Racing.
Now returning to his racing roots, JJ is the focus of the upcoming documentary Back in the Saddle: JJ’s Comeback, which follows his journey back into the world of horse racing as he prepares to compete in the prestigious Leger Legends Charity Race at Doncaster in September.
